Bike Coaching

Youth Programs

Strand Training is offering several options for the youth mountain biker.  The overlying philosophy is an athlete centered approach with a focus on creating healthy, passionate, successful, phenomenal human beings and mountain bikers.  All the options are aimed at helping youth athletes realize their full potential and are geared towards providing the youth mountain bike athlete with all the tools necessary to succeed provincially, nationally and internationally in cross country, downhill or enduro disciplines.

These options include professional on bike coaching through the off season, sports psychology sessions, high performance conditioning programs (more information on high performance conditioning program for youth here) as well as enduro coaching at select regional enduro races.

Although not an all inclusive program, it can be treated as such by incorporating all options into your overall program.  This method was chosen so each athlete can customize the system that works best for them.

Winter mountain bike training camps for youth

There will be one designated camp per month that runs over the course of a weekend, and locations change according to weather and focus.  The time frame is approximately 3-4 hours per day and participants are responsible for getting themselves to the chosen location (always in the Sea to Sky Corridor).

Winter training camps are open to all mountain bikers 12-18 years old (there are exceptions!) who currently have experience riding off road and would like to put more time into skill progression, fitness and/or race strategy that applies to cross country, downhill and/or enduro.  Riders will be grouped according to skill and experience.  All mountain or cross-country bikes are necessary as there will be no shuttles involved.

Coaches are all professional riders and coaches and will include:  Yoann Barelli, Seb Kemp, Jamie Hill, Katrina Strand, Dylan Wolsky, Jesse Melamed, among others.

Cost:

Due to WORCA subsidy, there are two price points for these camps.

Sea to sky residents:  $90/weekend.

Non sea to sky residents:  $125/weekend.

The cost remains the same if you choose to do one day.   Registration and payment closes 1 week prior to the camp.  (Cancellation policy:  If injury, sickness or change of plans occur after this date, there is NO REFUND).

Additionally, all participants MUST BE A WORCA MEMBER.  Click here for membership information.

  • Mental training for peak performance for youth

These sessions, open to youth 12-18 years old, are  designed to help you learn how to maximize your performance in sport, and life.  Although many athletes will devote most of their training to the physical components of performance, it is becoming increasingly apparent through sport performance research that it is just as important to integrate the mental aspects as well.

Greg McDonnell, registered clinical counsellor with education in Mental Performance Consulting, will be facilitating these sessions.
